You may think you like your wings hot, but you probably haven’t tried yours doused in Johhny Hexburg’s extra hot peri-peri sauce infused with the world’s hottest chilli – the Carolina Reaper. See how you fare against them at Cape Town’s very first Annual Ferno Wing Challenge at the Bay Harbour Market on Saturday, 3 August 2019.
SOME LIKE IT HOT
Home-based hot sauce brand Johnny Hexburg will be preparing the wings themselves with their speciality extra hot peri-peri sauce. They say that they had to take things up a notch for this challenge, to a level only real hot wing-lovers might be able to conquer.
“We could have just added some chilli powder to the wings, but that would be too easy. We are using our extra hot peri-peri sauce infused with Carolina Reaper chilli for extra bite. Carolina Reaper chillies are currently the hottest in the world, according to Guinness World Records,” say the folks at Johnny Hexburg.
HAVE YOU GOT THE GUTS?
If you think you can stomach these fiery wings, you can participate in the challenge for R200pp. The winner takes home R3000 in cash and a custom and unique 3D printed trophy. Only 20 contestants will be allowed to compete, so hurry up and pay your R200 entry fee by 30 July 2019. (Watching the contestants suffer is free.)
SO, HOW DOES THE CHALLENGE WORK?
Hot-wing lovers will need to sign a waiver that they’re in good health and are competing out of their own free will (yep, they’re that spicy). Then, with the safety glasses and gloves provided, round one will commence. If you can eat 20 hot wings in five minutes you’ll move onto round two, where the surviving contestants will need to eat as many hot wings as possible – but more than 20 – in five minutes. You’ll get one glass of juice per round but can drink as much as you need once the challenge is over.
Note: No walk-in entries will be allowed. To book your spot or for more information, contact johnnyhexburg@gmail.com or +27 (0)81 284 8013.
