Are you looking to keep the party going or unwind and spend time with family on New Year’s Day? From a 12-hour dance party at a beach club to a morning swim or picnic concert, there’s something for everyone to do on January 1st.
Plus, if you haven't got plans yet, check out these unique things to do on New Year's Eve.
Get groovy at a glamorous seaside venue with Sexy Groovy Love, one last time. There’ll be international and local DJs (Shimza, JAMIIE and Sun-EL Musician), a massive shimmering disco ball and a takeover by The Disco Pirates. Here’s all you need to know about Sexy Groovy Love’s New Year’s Day party at Grand Africa.
Time: 2pm to 2am
Where: Grand Africa Café & Beach
Cost: Varies depending on ticket level, book via Howler

Challenge yourself with a refreshing swim from Clifton 4th Beach as part of the 36ONE Open Water Swim Series. This 1 600m swim, with moderate difficulty, has roots in the 1990s as a way for volunteer lifesavers to shake off New Year’s duties. Today, it’s a fun way to kick off the year with some exercise. Good to know that 36ONE swim caps are compulsory.
Time: Starts at 8am, registration opens at 7am
Where: Clifton 4th Beach
Cost: R200 – R250, book via Howler

Catch South Africa’s indie-pop sensation, Matthew Mole, live at a Café Roux outdoor concert. Bring a blanket for a grass ticket or opt for premium seating near the stage. Café Roux is known for its laidback food menu with burgers, pizzas and pasta, so make sure to arrive early to grab food and drinks before the music starts.
Time: Gates open 4:30pm, show starts 5:30pm
Where: Cafe Roux, Noordhoek Farm Village
Cost: R200 – R300, book via Quicket

Kick off your year with a blend of dark humor and wholesome family fun at The Addams Family musical. Whether you love the comic books, the movies, or the TV series Wednesday, you’re in for a treat. It’s at Cape Town's beloved old Fugard, now known as the Homecoming Centre.
Time: 2:30pm
Where: Homecoming Centre, District Six
Cost: Tickets from R200 (PG), book via Webtickets

Boarding at the Silo District, you’ll pass the Cruise Terminal before seeing city sights like the V&A Marina and a seal platform and aquarium.
Time: Tours run hourly from 10am to 4pm
Where: V&A Waterfront, Cape Town
Cost: R150 for adults, R100 for kids under 12, book via Quicket
