Thailand's full moon party comes to Cape Town
3 days with top DJs, laser shows, and poolside fun
Last updated: Friday, 3 October 2025
Thousands of people travel to Haad Rin Beach in Koh Phangan, Thailand, for its famous full moon parties, where party-goers wear neon body paint and dance under the full moon with “full moon buckets”. Symmetry Music Festival is bringing these full moon parties to South Africa.
Happening from Friday 5 to Sunday 7 December 2025, it’ll be three days of house, trance, drum & bass, jungle, and techno music from local and international acts, as well as full moon buckets, laser shows, games, swimming, waterslides and even a spa. Here’s everything you need to know.
THAI FULL MOON PARTY, IN WORCESTER
Symmetry Music Festival is happening during the last full moon of the year, which will also be a super moon (a full moon that occurs when the moon is at its closest point to the earth, so it looks bigger and brighter).
As they do in Thailand, people will party with neon colours, UV body paint, flip-flops and “full moon buckets” (usually made with alcohol, a soft drink, and a Red Bull, served in buckets).
The venue, Nekkies Holiday Resort in Worcester, is the ideal spot to groove under the super moon because of its beautiful natural surroundings, river, and large swimming pool.
TWO STAGES WITH INTERNATIONAL ACTS
The festival will host an incredible lineup on two stages. The main stage will focus on tech house, afro tech house, techno, and trance, while the River Stage will have funky disco house, tropical house and drum & bass.
Some of the international artists include Tommahawk (Electric Ballroom and Terminal M) from the German techno scene (she’s played at some of the most renowned clubs and festivals like SonneMondSterne and Rakete in Germany) and DJ Delta, the Red Bull 3Style Italian Champion.
Anaïs (Hospital Records), a prominent figure from the UK drum & bass scene known for her underground influences, earth-shattering basslines, and jungle-infused beats, will also be on the lineup, as well as Switch Disco, the BRIT award-nominated duo back from their summer residency in Ibiza.

UP-AND-COMING ARTISTS, FEMALE TALENT
Symmetry will spotlight female DJs and rising performers. Both Friday's and Sunday’s lineups are all-women, with renowned artists like DJ Ashtag, known for her use of captivating fire and laser visual displays; Lady Lea, a stalwart of the South African DJ scene for over 30 years; Roz, with her infectious vibe that makes her a crowd favourite; and Stay-C with her distinctive blend of DnB melodies, hard-hitting drums and rolling basslines.
Other esteemed local acts include Pascal & Pearce, one of South Africa’s most popular DJ duos with three South African Music Awards nominations, Celso Fabbri (known for his underground Afro tech and Qhom sound), and Cape Town-based saxophonist Kirya Kuti.
To get an idea of the genres, see this playlist:
RODEO BULL, GAMES AND COMPETITIONS
There will be plenty of entertainment besides dancing, like a rodeo bull and festival games like “name that song” competitions and a trivia drinking game.
These interactive games are free to play, and participants stand to win drinks packages, food truck vouchers, and other prizes.
There will also be flame throwers, wing dancers, bubble sphere dancers, and stilt walkers to marvel at.
SWIMMING POOL, WATERSLIDES, AND A RIVER
Nekkies is one hour from Cape Town, so close enough for easy access, but far enough away to feel that you have escaped the city.
The huge 600 square-metre swimming pool will be the site of a pool party with a pool bar, while the river will offer another opportunity to cool off with giant inflatables and inflatable waterslides nearby. Lifeguards will be on standby at both.
CHILL DOME, LASER SHOWS, SPA
At the 20 metre-diameter chill dome, you can recline on a couch or a pouffe and take in an impressive display of lights. A free meditation with frequency healing and vibrational music will take place here in the mornings. There will also be a spa with massages, manicures, and hair dryers.
LOADS OF FOOD VENDORS AND BARS
Expect food trucks with ribs, burgers, quarter chickens, pizza, seafood, shawarma, ice cream and biltong, and more...
The festival will also have a tiki bar, wine and bubbles bar, beer tent, and a pool bar with couches, pouffes and umbrellas. Water will be freely available at water stations located around the resort. Just bring your own plastic bottle.
CAMPING INCLUDED IN YOUR TICKET
The Nekkies Resort will have three camping zones: The Bush Camp, the River Camp and the Pool Camp. All three are the same; the names just identify each one’s location.
Each festival ticket includes a 3m x 3m camping spot (up to four people per spot), and staff will be on hand to help attendees set up their tents if required. Vehicle camping comes at an extra fee of R500 per vehicle for a 5m x 6m space.
Electricity is not available in the camping areas, but free charge points will be available. Locations will be marked on the venue map and festival guide.
Get there early when the gates open at 12pm to secure a good spot, as camping spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
PROPER TOILETS WITH HOT SHOWERS
No porta potties here! All four ablution blocks come with proper toilets and three of the four have built-in hot showers. Portable hot showers stationed at the fourth. Additional toilets will be available around the venue in the form of executive trailers. All ablutions will be monitored and cleaned 24/7.
STUDENT, EARLY BIRD, AND GROUP DISCOUNTS
If you book an early bird ticket before 15 October, it will only cost R850. It then goes up to tier 1 pricing at R1 300 per ticket until the end of October. From November onwards, tickets are R1 500pp.
Matrics or students can get a further discount and pay R750 for an early bird ticket, R1 200 for tier 1, and R1 400 for the final tier.
Irrespective of when you buy them, there are also group tickets available for R2 600 for four people, or R2 400 for four matrics or students (just R600pp).
Even at full price, Symmetry works out to be a lot less expensive than many other festivals.
