Kirstenbosch Winter Warmer Concerts 2007

A roaring log fire, good food and hot local music - the perfect way to round off a winter weekend...a new season of Kirstenbosch Winter Warmer Concerts begins at the garden's Silvertree Restaurant on Sunday 6 May


The 2007 season of Kirstenbosch Winter Warmer Concerts begins at the garden's Silvertree Restaurant on Sunday 6 May and runs until Sunday 28 October with a top notch line-up including Louise Carver, James Stewart, Steve Newman, Bed on Bricks and DNA Strings.

Singer/songwriter Natalie Chapman kicks off the 2006 Kirstenbosch Winter Warmer Concert series with her blend of original acoustic, soul and pop on 6 May. Hot Water, led by singer/songwriter and composer Donovan Copley, play uplifting urban folk fusion on 20 May followed by Rory Eliot & The Reason of Plush fame on 27 May.

Bed on Bricks are next up with their eclectic mix of funk-rock, reggae and hip-hop on 3 June and local singer/songwriter Verity performs contemporary pop-rock on 10 June. Former lead singer of The Usual and now solo artist, James Stewart appears on 17 June followed by the three-piece instrumental hybrid group DNA Strings playing Afro-Spanish rhythms and melodies with Irish leanings on 24 June.

Andy Lund and the Mission Men will be performing alternative country material on 15 July and Dr John Mostert and his long-standing blues outfit, the Boulevard Blues Band play on 22 July. Singer/songwriter Louise Carver performs folksy rock and catchy pop on 29 July.

Up-and-coming young vocalists Joe Robbins and Lexi Samson share the stage on 5 August followed by Hannepoot and The Biggish Band, led by Jannie 'Hannepoot' van Tonder, on 12 August. Mark Harris performs his tribute show to American renegade performer/writer Tom Waits on 19 August and world music band Tucan Tucan fuse Afro-tropical and Latino sounds on 26 August.

Solo acoustic guitar guru Steve Newman appears on 2 September followed by singer/songwriter and guitarist Robin Auld and his three-piece band on 9 September. The Lone Sharks play a blend of boogie blues and Louisiana zydeco on 16 September and Tina Schouw, Ernestine Deane and Malika Ndlovu unite their vocal and poetic talents in the powerful and moving show "Womantide" on 23 September. The newly-formed acoustic trio Palms Up perform material from their debut CD "And Laughing" on 30 September.

Heather Mac returns to Kirstenbosch on 7 October with The Brills, an extraordinary ensemble of singer/songwriters featuring Tonia Selley, Ian Cohen and Mark Harris. Dream Soda introduce their "fizz pop" mix of acid jazz, funk, lounge and pop on 14 October followed by the award-winning jazz quartet Breakfast Included performing African Jazz and funk-flavoured original music on 21 October. (Performance of 28 October still to be announced.)

Tickets for the Kirstenbosch Winter Warmer Concerts are R90 per person (Botanical Society members pay R81) and include a welcome drink and starter course of soup. Booking is essential - tickets are available from the Silvertree Restaurant at Kirstenbosch or by credit card on tel: (021) 762 9585.
