Free to R50: Fun and Family Things This Workers’ Day

We can all afford to do something special this 1 May

1 May is for us, the people. And everyone should be able to do something special for themselves or enjoy the day with the family. So, from Stellenbosch to the Southern Suburbs, we found some free and affordable things to do to this Workers’ Day 2019.

FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY
In the heart of the Southern Suburbs, the Market at the Boon is a family and pet-friendly affair that recently set up their permanent space at the Cape Town Cricket Club in Plumstead. There’s something for everyone: from food trucks to live DJs for the evening and local businesses selling their wares. Entry is free and there’s even a free play area for kids.
Cost: Free

SOMETHING FIT
Every Wednesday, Biking In The Bosch encourages women of all levels of fitness to join them on their weekly bike ride in Stellenbosch. The group offers the chance to enjoy a safe, guided ride by professional skills coach Joanna Dobinson, who always drops a tip or two to help make the ride even more enjoyable. Meet them at Specialized Stellenbosch for the May Day cycle.
Cost: Free

SKATE AND SAVE
Whether you love to skate, BMX or rollerblade, or just enjoy hanging out in the spectator stands, there’s an awesome place to gather in Paarden Eiland. Every Wednesday night (including this Workers’ Day, of course) from 5pm–9pm, skaters can skate for just R50 a session and all spectators can come in for free. Discover The Shred Indoor Skatepark.
Cost: R50 to skate, free to watch

FREE CABLEWAY RIDE FOR KIDS
From April through to September, two kids under 18 ride the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway for free. All you have to do is buy one adult return ticket online or from the Lower Cable Station. And the kids also get a treasure hunt map and a sweet treat when they hand in their voucher at both the Shop at the Top of the mountain.
Cost: Buy 1 adult return ticket for R290pp, and two kids ride free (SA residents only).
