In winter, the V&A neighbourhood becomes a tapestry of magical experiences for locals, couples, families, kids and singles across its precincts. You’ll find squash tournaments at Makers Landing, live bands at the Amphitheatre, and wine tastings and food specials at Time Out Market. And most of it is free or pocket-friendly. See more things to do at our favourite neighbourhood this winter.

1. SATURDAY WINTER WINE SERIES
Time Out Market Cape Town is hosting a wine series that brings together some of the Western Cape’s top wineries until the end of September. Each session offers tastings of over 150 wines, and explores a unique theme that pairs with wine, like art, jazz, and street culture. You can also meet the winemakers and hear the stories behind their labels. Wine tastings happen on the last Saturday of each month.

2. SHARED-STYLE DINING ON SUNDAYS
COY restaurant hosts a Sunday dining event with shared plates and live music for lunch and dinner. SunDaze was created by head chefs Teenola Govender and Geoffrey Abrahams, and the menu focuses on seasonal, locally sourced ingredients. Expect dishes like whole roasted fish with ras el hanout, charred limes, and smoky sumac onions.

3. FOODIE SPECIALS FOR LOCALS
Time Out Market Cape Town is celebrating locals with the “Neighbourhood Feels Good” campaign. You can unlock exclusive food and drink deals by downloading the Time Out Market app. There’s free sides with your lunch and Happy Hour discounts on wines, beers and cocktails.

4. DINNER & SHOW AT SEVRUGA
After four years of sold-out shows across the Western Cape, Rumours of Fleetwood Mac is bringing a special performance to Sevruga. This tribute show celebrates the iconic Rumours album, which spent 31 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard charts. They’ll perform hits like “Go Your Own Way”, “Dreams” and “Everywhere”.

5. FRIDAY COCKTAIL SPECIAL
The Cocktail Club happens every Friday at Cause Effect Cocktail Kitchen, featuring a cheeky special: Three cocktails for R199 (that’s just R66 each!). Each week, the bartenders pick a different cocktail and serve it three unique ways. The tasting is a chance to try something familiar with a twist (or three).

6. AFTER 3PM SPECIAL AT ZEITZ MOCAA
Zeitz MOCAA, the world’s largest museum of contemporary African art, has nine floors and around 6 000 m² of gallery space carved from cylindrical silos. This winter, they’re running an after-3pm special where visitors pay just R190 (usually R250) to spend a slow day wandering through their exhibitions.

7. THE WINTER PLAYLIST AT RADISSON RED
The Winter Playlist is back with a fresh lineup of live music and top local talent. Booshle G and Craig Lucas will headline the series, with Chad Saaiman as the host. The shows take place at Radisson RED, with food and drinks from Oui Bar available throughout the night.

8. PICNIC ON THE CAPE WHEEL
The Cape Wheel now sits at The Lawns in the Granger Bay District of the V&A Waterfront, with sweeping views of Table Mountain, Robben Island, and the Atlantic coastline. You can try the Sky Dining Picnic, you’ll get a basket to fill with your favourite snacks before stepping into your private gondola, where a table will be set up and your ride time doubled.

9. AFRICA’S BEST ESCAPE ROOM
You can launch a torpedo, escape from prison, break a curse or find lost jewels at HintHunt’s escape rooms. Each room takes groups of two to six, and merges storytelling, problem-solving, and realistic set design so that you feel like you’re in a Marvel movie or your favourite murder mystery novel. 11. LIVE DJS EVERY FRIDAY
You can ease into the weekend with live DJ sets every Friday evening at Time Out Market, a lively space where food, drinks, and local culture come together in one place. Friday Feels will have smooth soul and R&B songs, dancing, and food.

12. WOMEN’S DAY FEASTIVAL AT CABO
This Women’s Day, Feastival returns to Cabo for a special edition filled with music, food, and art. Mi Casa headlines the day, joined by live performances from top local bands. There’ll be karaoke, an art gallery with sip and paint, a food truck market, and bespoke dining prepared by MasterChef winner Shawn Godfrey.

13. LIVE BAND AT THE AMPHITHEATRE
Kingswood College’s acclaimed concert band and string ensemble will be performing live at the Amphitheatre as part of their Cape Town tour. Made up of talented student musicians, the band features flutes, violins, trumpets and more, and they’ll be playing a vibrant mix of pieces.

14. SA NATIONALS SQUASH TOURNAMENT
The Growthpoint SA Nationals Squash Tournament will be held at Makers Landing for the first time, with top players from across the country. Divisions will range from U15 to the country’s leading male and female players, with matches open to everyone to watch.

15. 50 RESTAURANT SPECIALS
