Half day package includes 2 hour treatment & 3 course lunch

The 5-star Palm House Boutique Hotel holds so much behind its grand gate in quiet Wynberg. A bespoke Wellness Oasis with massages and facials; poolside glasses of antioxidant-rich pinotage or healing peppermint tea; and elegant fine dining. And the spa specials, like the half-day package of a two-hour treatment and three-course lunch, are sublime.

Palm House was once a 1920s manor designed by Sir Herbert Baker’s protégé. Now, it’s a luxe boutique hotel.

The Wellness Oasis (with a jacuzzi and wood cabin-inspired sauna) is adjacent to the stately manor, with its perfectly manicured garden of rose bushes, namesake palm trees and a heated pool.

The service at Palm House is truly impeccable, whether you are a day visitor or guest. Image: Palm House Boutique Hotel

There’s various treatments, all using Healing Earth products (which are made with Africa’s rich natural resources like minerals, flowers, herbs, and natural oils).

For massages, there’s options like a CBD-infused massage to reduce inflammation and tension, or aromatherapy (with heated rose quartz and aromatherapeutic oils). Bellabaci cupping can be added too, which increases blood flow and rejuvenates skin cells.

All facials include a brow tint and shape. There’s plenty to choose from, like a deep cleansing facial (which antioxidises the skin using Jade stone and pinotage vinotherapy) or vitamin C facial (with microfoliant enzyme clay, rosehip and vitamin C to exfoliate and renew tired skin).

There’s also waxing, manicures and pedicures.

Treatments start from R600. Image: Palm House Boutique Hotel

The spa specials at Palm House’s Wellness Oasis change monthly. In May 2024, a hydration facial, CBD massage or back massage and full body polish are all 30% off. To see current specials, go to the Palm House website. Or visit their Instagram page, @palmhousespa

The half-day package is an offer that runs the whole year: A two-hour treatment of choice, use of the pool and a three-course lunch at La Carte.

A popular treatment is the rose geranium heated poultice ceremony (intended to relieve fatigue and anxiety), which includes a dry brush and full body massage, as well as a sparkling wine and macaroon pairing).

Another that stands out is the African earth goddess ceremony, which includes a massage with heated rose quartz, an antioxidant facial and a glass of antioxidant-rich pinotage on the pool terrace.

The pool is incredibly tranquil, with soft tweeting of birds in the trees and quiet spa music. Image: Palm House Boutique Hotel

After relaxing at the Wellness Oasis, a late breakfast or three-course lunch under the trees is idyllic.

Palm House has two restaurants, De Tafel (fine dining) and La Carte (more casual, but elevated, meals). The menu changes every two weeks. Popular dishes in the past have been smoked duck Asian salad (Asian greens, spicy sour lemon dressing and sweet soy foam) and butternut ravioli (with pickled butternut compote and cinnamon sugar shards).

The suites are also the epitome of luxury. Read more about stays at Palm House Boutique Hotel

With over 30 wines on the menu, the sommelier will recommend a pairing for each dish you order. Image: Palm House Boutique Hotel
