The Passion Comes Alive at Respiro Flamenco
SoloFlamenco presents a show of authentic, pure Spanish Flamenco
Respiro Flamenco, translated from Spanish, means ‘I breathe Flamenco’, and this is exactly what the cast and crew of SoloFlamenco have been doing in preparation for this stunning, passionate show. Presented by Angela P Productions, Respiro Flamenco will be showing from Wednesday, 25 until Saturday, 28 October 2017 at the Magnet Theatre in Observatory.
A world-recognised art form, Flamenco is rooted in traditional Spanish culture and folk art. Imagine twirling skirts, hand-clapping, dramatic music, and impassioned eye contact between two partners. It is often represented only as a dance, but is actually a three-part performance including dance, guitar playing, and singing.
South African actress and dancer La Tanya lived in Spain for some years and immersed herself in its culture, and has become fluent in both Spanish and Flamenco. She started up SoloFlamenco in 1996 and is behind the production’s direction. Her company offers classes and also performs regular productions at venues around Cape Town, including the Nassau Theatre, Alliance Francaise and The Masque Theatre, so keep an eye on what’s happening at those spots for their future shows.
The Magnet Theatre nestles in the off-beat suburb of Observatory that is positively buzzing with art culture. Here you can expect to find original productions and performance events that are purely South African and showcase the local theatre scene.
