The Bombay Brasserie is a sumptuous feast for the senses, with peacocks on the wall, dramatic chandeliers, blue velvet chairs and a 10-dish experience that showcases the diverse flavours of India. At the Taj Cape Town’s signature fine dining restaurant, sparkling wine is served upon arrival and there’s valet parking. It’s the place for that refined date with a special someone or important business associate.

The Bombay Brasserie is named after India’s most multicultural and cosmopolitan city, and the restaurant’s menu reflects the remarkable variety offered by that country’s cuisine. It explores India’s array of flavours and cooking styles, and adds a distinct Cape Town flair.
Surprising dishes explore delicate flavours, from a creamy wild mushroom and toasted chickpea chana to a beautifully spiced and charred ginger masala lamb chop. A standout is the Bo-Kaap Duck Moilee, which features slow-cooked duck breast in a Cape Malay curry sauce. There are also tapas-style plates, such as crispy bok choy coated with chickpea flour and tamarind and mint chutneys.
The set menu is a gastronomic experience across India and South Africa through an array of imaginative dishes. Image: Taj Cape Town
There are vegetarian and non-vegetarian set menus, which are made up of two amuse bouche dishes, three starters, three mains and two desserts (one served at the start and end of the experience). A glass of MCC or wine is served upon arrival.
Both menus offer a variety of flavours, textures and imaginative dishes, such as the Spice Mess: gulab jamun (round sweets made with cardamom and rose water), mango, cardamom meringue, passion fruit mousse and pistachio dust. The menu caters for halaal, vegan and gluten-intolerant guests.
The potato and semolina sphere (exclusive to the set menu) is a delicate bite, with sweet yoghurt and tangy tamarind chutney. Image: Taj Cape Town
It’s not only that the food is exceptional – eating here really is a culinary adventure – it’s that the atmosphere is special. The interior is opulent, the waiters are perfectly attentive (and knowledgeable about the excellent wine list). Why not make a night of it and stay over at the luxurious Taj Cape Town?
