Possibly the best escape room in the world?

HintHunt’s Marble is being called “the king of escape rooms”

Last updated: 20 May 2024

Solve puzzles Avengers-style in this superhero escape room.

HintHunt’s new superhero-themed escape room, which took four years to complete from start to finish, is being called “the king of escape rooms”.

If you’re new to escape rooms, Marble will exceed your expectations. If you’ve done them all, this insanely-immersive game, which creates an atmosphere of superhero realism, just ups the ante.

CAPE TOWN'S BIGGEST AND BEST ESCAPE ROOM YET

It took five months to build Marble, and you can see the immense effort in the details.

The set designers, who’ve worked on internationally-renowned TV shows, have succeeded in creating an atmosphere of superhero realism – it’s basically like stepping into the Marvel universe.

UP TO THE STANDARD OF VEGAS ESCAPE ROOMS

This game is also unmatched in size; it’s massive compared to any other game in the industry.

“Marble, which has been in the works since 2019, is way larger and more expansive than any escape room in Africa,” says Dino Paulo, co-owner of HintHunt Africa.

It opened in November 2023, and has been “super well-received” by both escape game newbies and fans, says Dino (see the Google reviews at the end of this story).

“We’ve had escape room enthusiasts say that it’s up to the standard of $300 000 rooms they’ve played in Las Vegas.”

The room has its own unique details and feels like you’re transported to another universe. Image: Claire Photography

STEP INTO THE MARBLE UNIVERSE

The premise of the game is this: The Marble agency needs a group of civilians to infiltrate Roach’s evil lair to stop a secret serum from being released, and save the city of Cape Town in under 75 minutes.

The game combines storytelling and the thrill of puzzling. The most unusual places hide breakthrough clues, and the scare tactics can be unnerving.

Whether you’re a superhero geek or just want a great time with your friends, you’ll find it thrilling to solve the puzzles in order to save Cape Town. And if you are a geek, discovering the Marvel easter eggs like “I Love You 3000” and a dog named Loki will be a treat.

Make sure not to overthink and waste time. Image: Claire Photography

BE TONY STARK OR SPIDERMAN

Set design is key in the immersive experience. The room feels just like Iron Man’s lab, with sleek white walls, neon lights, lots of tech gadgets, moving screens and a Marble agent giving you clues on an iPad like your own Jarvis.

Then, you’ll move through different immersive worlds to finally infiltrate Roach’s lair.

YOU HAVE TO THINK LIKE A SUPERHERO

Your team has to get really creative to beat Roach.

Having your wits about you is key from the start, from the position of your head, to how hard to pull levers, matching shapes, and even finding the secret messages hidden right in front of you. This is likely why this game needs a minimum of four players (the other games need two players or more).

Marble is full of the mystery and thrills that make superhero movies exciting. And if you don’t manage to escape the room, don’t panic. There’s more than one way to win…
