In HintHunt escape rooms, you can play the hero (or villain) in your own movie. And because the venue is at the V&A Waterfront and closes late on Fridays (last game slot at 8.30pm), it is the perfect after-dinner adrenaline kick and will inject just the right energy for a birthday, bachelor or bachelorette party wanting to make a night of it.

HintHunt, the guys that made escape rooms viral in South Africa, brings you an exhilarating immersive experience in which teams of friends, colleagues or family are locked away in a themed room and challenged to solve riddles and puzzles in 60 minutes or less.
In the newest experience, the Prison Break-style Escape Plan, your crew is split into two cells containing nothing but a bed, a cupboard and something about an Italian on the wall.
“Dirty socks, a tattoo, a make-shift wrench, why 6?” are just some of the clues your crew will have to decipher to break free.
Your team will use the clues given by the previous escapees, Michael and Lincoln, from Prison Break. Image: HintHunt Africa
It gets lively in the rooms, which makes for a fun and spirited Friday night out. While one person is shouting about drawings on the wall, another is trying to remember the code needed to open the cryptex, as another falls through a hidden door (as happened to one colleague in a team building, to great hilarity).
“Torpedo” is perhaps the most challenging. Trapped in a room decorated like a submarine, which really feels like you’re underwater, you'll need to decode numbers and morse code and push the big red button, to escape.
If you’re stuck in a rut, your game master will send your team hints on the countdown screen. Image: HintHunt Africa
Then there are the classic games “Shipwrecked”, “Cursed Treasure” and “Old Hotel”. To break out, you’ll have to overcome a voodoo curse, recover the royal family’s sacred pearls from Captain Kalman’s lost ship, or solve the disappearance of Mr O.

Each game tests your skills and knowledge, from puzzle-building abilities to maths and geography. You may also learn some new things, like how to decode morse code, working with a periscope and (this will really blow the minds of the Gen Zs) dialling a number on an 80s telephone.

Fun, teamwork and communication are key. You need each other to solve the mystery, which is why HintHunt games, whether in person, online, outdoors or as in the form of an Amazing Race around the V&A Waterfront, are so good for bonding.
Everyone plays a role and is equal – it could be the CEO crawling under the bed to find a clue, the quiet friend could shout out the game master’s hints or the youngest sibling could be the one to solve the 6-digit code needed for the final escape.
HintHunt escape games are a great way to get to know your friends, family and colleagues.
