March is the month of plums at Boschendal Wine Estate, which means you can pick your own harvest of nature’s candy. It’s reasonable, too: R50 per kg, you only pay for what you harvest. You will have the chance to explore the orchards and pick your plums on Sunday, 21 and 28 March 2021.
Besides this harvest experience, there’s much more to do on the farm, from touring the property through to mountain biking and horse-riding (and, of course, wine tasting). It’s worth making a day of it.

Grab a bucket and head into the beautiful plum orchards on Boschendal’s farm, in Franschhoek, where you can handpick fresh plums straight from the trees. This experience is available every Sunday until the end of March. Spots are limited, so remember to book in advance.
While you’re there it’s worth doing some of the other family-fun activities on the farm. There’s a lot available: mountain biking, horse riding, farm tours, and dining, of course. The Deli offers hearty farm-style breakfasts, or you can order a Rhone Rose Garden picnic and lay it out under the oak trees. Stock your pantry with fresh and local produce from The Farm Shop, or taste wine and nibble on a delicious sharing plate at The Werf Restaurant. The little ones can play in the Tree House Playground, which has acorn hideouts, slides, walkways, platforms, mushroom pods and pyramids, and a pump track.
Stay in a historical home by booking Cottage 1685, designed by renowned architect Sir Herbert Baker, whose buildings are famous, and sought after, throughout South Africa. Other beautifully restored farm cottages are also available. Boschendal offers a fabulous farm-living experience; you can join a farm tour or explore the estate on foot.
