Learn To Share Your Voice With The Power Of Podcasting
Industry experts share secrets to creating successful digital sound stories
There’s a podcast for just about every subject under the sun, but if you’ve spotted a gap, here’s a workshop that’ll show you how to make your own. You’ll also learn how to brand, market, fund and build an audience at The Power of Podcasting workshop at the Stoep Start-Up Coworking Space on Monday 19 August 2019.
WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?
In the full-day workshop you will record your own short podcast introduction and have these questions answered:
- What are podcasts anyway, and what are they good for?
- What role can a podcast play in brand and marketing strategy?
- How do I conceptualise, brand, launch and market a podcast?
- What should I budget for?
- How do I know what equipment is best for my purposes?
- What about audio quality, editing and production?
- How do I build an audience?
- What about metrics?nbsp;
WHO IS HOSTING THE WORKSHOP?
Ekoneni Podcasting, who do the Ekoneni: Street Corner Stories podcast, will be hosting the workshop.
The podcast is run by storytellers Pam Sykes and Jenn Warren and explores what motivates ordinary people to make a difference in their communities by introducing listeners to some of Cape Town’s local heroes.
Ekoneni is also the Xhosa word for "corner". The idea behind the podcast is that in South Africa, the street corner is where people hang out, trade stories and watch life unfold.
WHO WILL YOU LEARN FROM?
The workshop will see talks by industry experts Jayne Morgan, Pam Sykes and Jenn Warren.
A former BBC, SABC and 702 radio producer and the founder of Podcart, championing podcasting in South Africa since 2007, Jayne Morgan has created podcasts for the Mail & Guardian, Woolworths, Old Mutual’s World of Endurance, Santam and Sanlam.
Pam Sykes is the co-founder and co-presenter of Ekoneni, with Jenn Warren. She’s a multimedia creator, writer and trainer, as well as the founder and lead facilitator of Digital Storytelling South Africa, a company that hosts workshops and classes to teach the skills of digital storytelling.
Jenn Warren has consulted for a range of government, donor, UN and NGO clients and leads photography, digital storytelling and communications workshops for youth and professionals.
