Celebrate your kids’ birthday with a ride on the “Old Lady”, the vintage mini blue train, then let them run wild on over 8000m2 of outdoor space. The Blue Train Park also has an array of interactive areas for kids between the ages of 1 - 12 years, including multiple play structures, a dirt bike track, zip-line, rock-climbing wall and a mini soccer pitch.
Did you know the Blue Train Park has operated for over 60 years? Image: The Blue Train Park
Pick your seat at the front, close to the driver, or the back and you’ll get a full view of the vintage, blue train as it twists and turns around the track. It has 2 carriages with 20, 2 (or 3 if you are small) seater benches to sit on and 10 large, open windows so everyone gets a view of all the action.
The park is 25m away from the Atlantic Ocean with a backdrop of Table Mountain, Signal Hill and Lions Head. Image: The Blue Train Park
It starts under a leafy canopy of trees and heads into a tunnel painted with colourful Mexican-themed street art. You’ll emerge from the dark and be greeted by the ocean, just metres away.
The train winds around the playground and, just when you think the fun is over, takes you on another loop. One train ride includes two trips around the track for R35 and takes approximately 5 minutes. Or you can book two rides for R55, which gives you an extra 2 trips to take any time of the day. Ask for the party pricing to get a special discount in advance.
If you miss one ride, don’t worry, it leaves approximately every 20 minutes. Image: The Blue Train Park
Reserve one of 5 dedicated seating areas to set up your party: There’s a big and small jungle gym, rocklands with a rock climbing wall, a bike track and a soccer pitch. Plus, you can reserve a jumping castle and water slide when booking.
To make this a stress-free day, chairs, tables and umbrellas are provided and will be set up before you arrive. All you need to do is bring your own party drinks, food and decorations. Kids can play anywhere in the park, except in the reserved seating areas and jumping castles.
The park is surrounded by a fence, providing a safe space for the little ones to have some freedom on the playground. Image: The Blue Train Park
There are 3 party slots from Tuesday to Sunday: 9.30am to 11.30pm, 12.15pm to 2.15pm, and 3pm to 5pm. You’re allowed to stay in the park after your allocated slot is over, as long as you are out of the reserved area. Entrance fee applies to both kids and adults; children under 1 year are free.
Spend the day enjoying the lush, green lawns and 180-degree sea views. Image: The Blue Train Park
The park has multiple play structures; two 8m-long slides, see-saws and two wooden jungle gyms, a dirt-bike track, cement push-bike track, 30m zip-line, mini soccer pitch, climbing rock and some obstacles scattered around – all with a view of the ocean and promenade. Ice creams, chips, cold drinks and other sweet treats are on sale from the small kiosk at the entrance.
For hot days, book a slip-and-slide to cool off while having some fun. Image: The Blue Train Park
Party time slots to book: 09:30am – 11:30am; 12:15pm – 2:15pm; 3pm – 5pm
Blue Train Park is open: Tuesday to Sunday, 09:30am - 6pm
