Zip Zap Circus’ latest show is on for four performances only. It’s Kaleidoscope, an enchanting production created and performed by youth in Zip Zap’s social programmes. Breathtaking acrobatic feats, trapeze and catchy tunes will take you on a vibrant journey though the seasons. Kaleidoscope is on at the Zip Zap Dome from 17 to 25 August 2024.
Zip Zap has been a force for social change for over 30 years. Its doors are open to thousands of South Africans who get to attend the circus school free of charge and channel their love for the circus into real opportunities.
Zip Zap’s social programmes are truly open to everyone. There’s jugglers from Khayelitsha, unicyclists from Sea Point, acrobats from Mitchell's Plain… there’s even students with ADHD who thrive in a more free environment like Zip Zap.
Every ticket goes straight into funding these kids and encouraging them to continue doing what they love.

Kaleidoscope was written and choreographed, and will be performed, by members of the Zappers and Dare2Dream programmes. Even the technical staff (lighting and sound) are Dare2Dream alumni that now work full-time with the circus.
These programmes offer an alternative education in circus arts (covering everything from performing to costume design, makeup, lighting and sound), as well as soft skills like teamwork and communication.
Kaleidoscope takes you on a dazzling journey through the seasons — starting with winter, then spring, summer and autumn — bursting with vibrant colours, thrilling acrobatics, and exciting tunes. Expect to be wowed by trapeze acts, jugglers, scarf performances, and handstands, all to a great soundtrack.
Zip Zap describes their youth performers as “ordinary kids doing extraordinary things.” Image: Joan Ward
Kaleidoscope is a spectacle packed with thrills that’ll keep everyone on the edge of their seats, young or old.
You’re in for a fantastic time for date night, an after-work team building, or a birthday celebration. Doors open 45 minutes before the shows and there's free parking, so you can comfortably grab dinner before the show at nearby spots like YU or The Conservatory, or after-show drinks at the Rockefeller or Filini at Radisson Cape Town Foreshore.
Or can support Zip Zap’s fundraising efforts by buying snacks like hotdogs, samoosas, and chips (which are all halaal).

And if you are going with the family, make sure to visit the merch stall. Kids will love the juggling balls and I Can Fly storybook, which is based on a true story about one of Zip Zap’s performers.
Kaleidoscope is a cashless event, so you can only use credit/debit cards or SnapScan for payments.
