Durbanville Children’s Home (DCH) is hosting a R2 book sale on Thursday 25 July, and on the last Thursday of every month thereafter. You’ll find all sorts of treasures there, as well as in their charity shop. The Bookshop is open every Thursday from 10am to 1pm and until 5pm on the last Thursday of the month, and on the first Saturday of the month from 9am to 1pm, so round up the little ones and go hunting.
THE JOY OF READING
The organiser of the DCH bookshop is a retired librarian, Ilze Swart. She introduced the R2 sales to attract more customers - and raise more funds for the home - while spreading the joy of reading and owning books, they are making them affordable for everyone.
The books arrive via public donation and children’s books in good condition go to the library in the Children’s Home.
OLD GEMS AND CHILDHOOD CLASSICS
At the R2 sale you’ll find old editions of textbooks, fiction, non-fiction, Reader’s Digest titles, foreign language titles (especially Dutch, French and German), English and Afrikaans books, classics, children’s books and older fiction titles by the likes of Desmond Bagley, Taylor Caldwell and PG Wodehouse. There’s also Afrikaans books
Older readers may find childhood favourites - like the Enid Blyton series - that they have always wanted to re-read or share with a grandchild. Some CDs, puzzles, games and DVDs are usually also on sale. Everything is arranged in useful categories, so items are easy to find.
GOOD TO KNOW
The R2 Book Sale takes place in the lounge at DCH. Books are arranged on tables for easy browsing and credit card facilities are available. There’s free parking on the large verge outside the gates of the home in Church Street.
ATTENDING THE DCH BOOK SALE
There is no charge to attend the event. Contact the organisers directly if you have any questions on dch@durbanvillekinderhuis.org.za. The R2 sale is on from 10am–5pm on the last Thursday of every month.
