Julie Donald has been in the confectionary game for over ten years, so rest assured that she knows how to bake the perfect cake – and cookie. She’s willing to pass this skill on to you, and what better way to impress your friends than with extreme baking prowess? Join Julie at her Cake studio in Claremont this October. You'll leave with a new-found skill, not to mention the ultimate prize – the perfect cookies.
MEET THE CHEF
Julie Donald started teaching in 2010. Her studio in Claremont, although not open commercially, presents a variety of classes throughout the year. She also makes novelty and wedding cakes. These usually cost R600 and up, depending on the size.
YOU’LL GO FROM NOVICE TO MASTER BAKER
The class covers a wide variety of baking techniques. You'll learn how to bake a perfectly flat cookie, how to make Royal icing (icing sugar and egg whites) in a variety of consistencies, how to cover your cookie with icing neatly, and how to use icing and toothpicks to create clever designs. For this class, Julie is considering a Halloween theme, so come ready with all your spooky decorating ideas.
THE RECIPE FOR JULIE'S COOKIE DECORATING CLASS
The class starts promptly at 9.30am, so make sure to arrive on time. It's a four-hour class, and tea, coffee, and water will be provided, as well as cookies to snack on. You'll receive all applicable recipes, but before you start baking, Julie will demonstrate each step. Pay attention, or your cookie might flop. Note: bookings are essential.
