It’s too early in the school holidays to be getting bored. Thankfully, Nicolé Harris from Art by Nikki is on a mission to make sure you and your kids continue having fun. Through her art class, she hopes to help eager creative minds refine or develop new creative skills… and to give you the chance to see whether or not you have any skills in the art department.
ART HISTORY
Harris is a full-time conveyancing paralegal who discovered her passion project shortly after volunteering at the Change for the Better Foundation in Kraaifontein. She held her first art class for community children at the foundation on 2 June this year, helping them create finger paintings using “recycling” as a theme.
Art By Nikki is an extension of the art class for both kids and adults. “I thought it would be a great idea to do the classes for the school holidays. Because it keeps the children busy. It is also therapeutic. And parents always run out of ideas.”
ABOUT THE CLASS
It will be held at the Durbanville Community Church on 13 July, starting at 10am and finishing at 1pm (with breaks). The class will be separated into two groups:
Kiddies Group Class
For kids from five to 12 years old, there’ll be a variety of arts and crafts to choose from, like making wooden treasure and jewellery boxes, finger painting, brush painting, drawing with pastels and more. Harris will prep all supplies before the class so that the kids don’t work with any sharp objects.
Adult Group Class
For ages 13 and up, this class will teach participants how to use acrylic on canvas (there’ll be painting examples for reference). Harris encourages adults to be creative and bring their own ideas.

Tickets cost R300 per child, R500 per adult and R400 for pensioners. To book your spot email artsandcraftsbookings@outlook.com. Upon booking, you’ll receive an invoice with banking details. You’re required to make 50% deposit and pay the rest on the date of the class.
