Two Oceans Aquarium's free beach cleanups
Every 3rd Sat of the month in Milnerton, Muizenberg, or Blouberg
Last updated: Wednesday, 27 August 2025
Did you know that the Two Oceans Aquarium hosts free beach cleanups? They happen every third Saturday of the month, alternating between Muizenberg, Milnerton, and Blouberg. These Trash Bash initiatives are a great way to get some fresh air and help protect our incredible marine animals.

CONSERVATION WITH TWO OCEANS AQUARIUM
The Two Oceans Aquarium runs a host of programmes that protect endangered marine life. They’ve created easy-to-use maps of the Marine Protected Areas so that people know what activities are permitted, and where. Their Turtle Conservation Centre rescues, rehabilitates, and releases stranded turtles along the Western Cape coastline, and their Marine Wildlife Programme preserves the welfare of urban wildlife like Cape fur seals.
Trash Bash is one of these programmes. It’s a community-driven volunteering effort that tackles marine pollution, protects our stunning South African coastline, and educates the public on marine conservation.

WHAT TO WEAR & BRING TO THE BEACH CLEANUP
Trash Bash is free, and everyone is welcome to help preserve the natural beauty of our beaches.
The 12 most common beach litter items are on-the-go food and drinks waste, like plastic bags, bottles, and straws. Being mindful of the types of plastic litter collected helps Trash Bash attendees to better understand their own contributions to the growing ocean plastic crisis.
Volunteers must bring reusable gloves (like what you would use to garden or wash the dishes), water bottles, and sun protection. You should dress comfortably with closed-toe shoes. No prior booking or RSVP is required.
