Daytime Afrocentric festival in Cape Town

New lifestyle event brings amapiano, gqom, food & more

Last updated: 20 November 2024

The curators of popular music and cultural event, Slow Cooked Sundays, are hosting a new kind of festival to kick off a Mzansi summer with an unmatched line up of local and continental acts.

Days In The Sun is taking place on Saturday, 30 November at The Ostrich, just 30 minutes away from Cape Town. Think Deep House, RnB, Amapiano, Gqom and 2000s South African hits that will trigger summer memories, with lush grass and beach sand, good food and even better vibes with hours of dancing under the open sky.

Get all the details, plus a sneak peek at their groovy playlist.

A LICENSE TO ESCAPE ADULTING

Days In The Sun festival wants to give you a license to escape the craziness of adulting, it's clear from the playful illustrations you see on their Instagram

“Our aim is to take our party-goers through a journey of childhood memories. We’re blending Afrocentric vibes, nostalgic fun, and cutting-edge music,” says Kofi Appiah, the co-founder and director of the festival.

FROM THE CREATORS OF SLOW COOKED SUNDAYS

Days In The Sun adds to the growing Cape Town festival scene, and brings diversity to the DJ lineup and festival audiences, as they have done with Slow Cooked Sundays, the trendy event that started in 2019 in Sea Point with a mission to connect people and showcase local talent and businesses.

“Slow Cooked Sundays has been an incredible experience, quite a ride since Covid. We're now transitioning into something even bigger, which is our Days In The Sun festival,” he adds.

A LINEUP THAT WILL KEEP YOU MOVING

The festival kicks off at 12pm, at The Ostrich on Saturday, 30 November.

Arrive early to listen to your favourite acts, a soundscape flowing from Deep House, RnB, Amapiano, and Gqom by the most exciting, established, and upcoming DJs.

Like amapiano powerhouse female duo TxC; global pioneer in gqom music, DJ Lag; Atmos Blaq, a crowd favourite for his unique take on 3-step; Dwson, loved locally and internationally for deep house, and Asvnte, Rarri, and Bella Worldwide, who will bring an eclectic mix of hip-hop, trap and afrobeats.

From a food perspective, expect Pizza Shed, Triple B Burgers, Ground Culture Cafe, and Amar é vita Ice Cream.
