Dance and dinner theatre at Mavericks

High-end, choreographed burlesque cabaret

Last update: 1 October 2024

Nobody describes the theatre dance show at Mavericks better than this Reddit Reviewer.

“...I was greeted by lovely hostesses dressed up as ringmasters with top hats and suits…The dancers were talented, theatrical and did beautiful aerial acrobatics and even fire dancing… Whoever put this together thought of everything…I’m going back with my girlfriends asap!”

We unpack this scintillating show – on every Wednesday to Friday until 29 November – for you.

CLASSY NIGHT WITH DINNER THEATRE

A hostess greets you and seats you when you arrive, and as soon as you’re comfortable at your table, a waiter comes over to talk you through the programme and the food and drinks menus before the show starts. Then the main floor of Mavericks transforms for the performance of the two-hour experience.

The doors open at 7pm, and the main show starts at 8pm. Arrive early for dining, some pre-show entertainment and simply to take in the luxurious surroundings.

Celebrity Skin is about a backstage janitor looking for love. His quest is told through cabaret, dance and theatre with elite dancers as he crafts a doll from the most sensual, mysterious, and fiery of the personalities who grace his stage.

TALENTED ACTORS, ACROBATICS & DANCERS

Actor and stand-up magician Charles Tertiens is the lead character. You also know him for his features in local and international movies (I Now Pronounce You Black and White and J.M Coetzee’s Disgrace with John Malkovich).

The show is directed and choreographed by Grant van Ster and Shaun Oelf; their shows have been featured at the Baxter. “The dancers were talented, theatrical, and did beautiful aerial acrobatics and even fire dancing! It felt like something out of Cirque de Soleil (sic)...,” said the reviewer.

This seductive high-energy show with humour and drama makes for an electrifying night out with a date or friends, whether they are men or women. There’s no nudity or lap dances.

TAPAS, MAINS, AFFORDABLE WINES & HIGH-END BUBBLY

There is a menu of small plates, sharing platters or main courses for the show. Mavericks has options of burgers, steaks, prawns and an extensive sushi menu with fresh Norwegian salmon.

You’ll find affordable drinks like Ken Forrester and premium celebratory drinks like Mumm and Dom Perignon. Should you stay on after the show, Mavericks has a late-night dinner menu after 1am. Food and drinks are at additional cost.
