Club Vibe Reunion in Lansdowne
Celebrate the icon of Cape Town’s earlier clubbing scene with a full-on disco rave
Whether you were there with Club Vibe from the beginning, or have heard the legend of it and are ready to discover it for yourself, come down to Lansdowne Industrial on Thursday, 15 June 2017 for a night of dance and DJs in honour of the iconic institution that was. The DJ who hails from the beginning days of the Club, Fast Eddie, will be featuring which is sure to be a cause of excitement for old-school Vibers. The party will be held in a marquee right next to where Vibe 2 was situated, for those familiar with it.
If you weren’t partying it up in the 90’s and early 00’s, you may have been totally unaware that Club Vibe was ever a thing. It may come off as sounding like some fantastical myth when those who witnessed it recall the times they had there. It was a pioneer in the entertainment industry, they say, an iconic establishment which took the notion of entertainment to a whole new level by focusing on providing great service and hospitality, and creating fantastic experiences for their party patrons. It organised marathon 12-hour parties, had crowds of regulars at its events who got together for a catch-up and jol, and attracted young DJs looking to watch the charismatic DJ Fast Eddie, a real trendsetter at the time, mixing beats like nobody’s business at the discos. And then in 2002, after nearly ten years of spreading joy across its dancefloors, it died - or so it seemed.
In fact, it was lying dormant and a decade later in 2012, it burst back into life with a massive party, 12 hours long just for the sake of its old traditions and nostalgic former patrons, and fittingly named ‘Once Upon A Time’. Since 2012, Club Vibe has been pretty quiet, reawakening sporadically, but always to the loyal cheers of those who knew the Vibe during its active years, and attracting newcomers who have heard of the phenomenon that began in the Cape Town suburb of Lansdowne.
It’s National Youth Day the day afterwards meaning a public holiday, so you don’t have to worry about waking up early for work or lectures the next day. It’s a good thing too, because this is going to be an all-night jam. Along with Eddie, look out for Clint the Legend, DJ Willy and Uncle Hayden as features in the event’s line-up.
Revellers are expected to show up in classic club dress form - that means putting on your best and leaving the running shoes, slip-slops, sports tops and flats at home.
