Tucked away in the quiet Van Riebeeck park in Oranjezicht, the weekly Mountain Market offers organic, holistic and healthy food. Best part: It’s affordable (you can get a gluten-free vegan lunch for under R100!)
The park is quiet but large, with trails and bridges to explore - perfect for the kids (furry or not). Image: The Mountain Market
The Mountain Market was started at the end of 2021 by Natasha Napoli, the founder of vegan health café, Nourish’d. The eatery was founded on the idea of a holistic connection to both nature and our bodies, and the market has been shaped by this too.
It’s held in the serene Van Riebeeck park with sprawling green lawns, a play area and a panoramic view of Table Mountain. A stream runs through the park, so you can sit under the shade of the trees and listen to the calming sound of running water. There’s limited seating available, so make sure to pack a picnic blanket or camping chair.

Naturally, there’s a Nourish’d stall offering freshly pressed juices, smoothie bowls and vegan croissants. There’s also plenty of vegan and gluten-free options available at a reasonable price. Try a buckwheat galette with mushroom and avocado from La Rozell or a True Nature lentil and bean dahl.

Meat lovers, don’t worry - you have choices too. There’s a R60 boerie roll and coffee special, or those who want something a bit more indulgent can try a New York beef pastrami bagel from Ty’s Bagels. There are also organic fruits and veggies, freshly-baked bread and pastries, skincare products, thrifted and small-batch clothing and jewelry. The vendors aren’t always the same every week, so you can visit over and over and still find something new.
Stock up on organic fruit and veggies for the week - the produce is reasonably priced and doesn’t have plastic packaging. Image: The Mountain Market
The market also hosts various activities and workshops, some of which are free. Activities include yoga, Pilates, kids parkour classes (an obstacle course-type activity) and dog adoption days. The activities change weekly and you can find information about them on the market’s Instagram page.

The Mountain Market happens: Every Saturday, 8am to 2pm
