5 reasons to visit this beach-side family spot in Onrus

Never-ending summer of waffles, hotdogs, cocktails...

Last updated: 20 December 2022

This brightly-coloured eatery located on Onrus River is the spot where your kids will make new memories, and you can relive yours. Milk on the Beach, with loaded hotdogs, beach toys, and ice-cold beer and sushi, is a nostalgic treat for all ages. Here are 5 great reasons to go.

Milk on the Beach is located where the old Milkwood used to be. Image: Milk on the Beach

THE VIEW IS STUNNING

Need we say more? Milk on the Beach is located on Onrus River, a 10-minute drive from Hermanus.

At Milk, you’ll be treated to views of both the sea and the mountains. Image: Milk on the Beach

IT’S RIGHT ON THE BEACH

Head over to Milk after a day at the beach with the kids. Or, enjoy a beer while you watch your kids build sandcastles - Milk has a beach shop selling buckets, spades and pool noodles.

Milk also has a tuckshop if you want to pop in for a beach snack. Image: Milk on the Beach

BUILD YOUR OWN WAFFLE

Down the stairs is the Waffle Shack. Come in with sandy feet and try a loaded Mexican hotdog or a Berry Cheesecake waffle. The kids can also build their own waffles.

The loaded Mexican Chihuahua is a cheese griller topped with salsa and nacho crumbs and jalapeño. Image: Milk on the Beach

THERE’S FUN FOR ADULTS TOO

The deck overlooking the lagoon makes Milk a great spot for sundowners. Order a kombucha cocktail or an ice-cold beer, and enjoy sushi made with fresh salmon and tuna.

BRING YOUR FOUR-LEGGED FRIEND

This beach-side spot is dog-friendly and the restaurant is covered with funky murals of pugs and French bulldogs. At the Waffle Shack, there’s even a Dog Bowl cocktail (for humans only).
